Leicester City were desperately unlucky to not come away from the Etihad Stadium with a point after a freak disallowed penalty from Riyad Mahrez kept the Foxes from earning a much-deserved draw in a 2-1 loss at Manchester City.
Positives
Leicester showed tremendous spirit and very much held their own against a star-studded side likely to qualify for Champions League football. Shinji Okazaki's volley will live long in the memory, despite proving only a consolation in the end.
Negatives
Leicester looked brittle without both Wes Morgan and Robert Huth. Yohan Benalouane was too casual in possession and conceded a very poor penalty.
Manager rating
7 (out of 10) -- Craig Shakespeare tried not to tinker and was right to bring in Ben Chilwell and push Christian Fuchs to centre-back. His only other options were to use makeshift defender Daniel Amartey or risk Marcin Wasilewski. Fielding either would probably have been punished by the hosts.
Player ratings (1-10; 10 = best. Players introduced after 70 minutes get no rating)
GK Kasper Schmeichel, 7 -- Couldn't prevent David Silva's opener because Raheem Sterling was blocking his view in a clear offside position.
DF Danny Simpson, 6 -- Stuck to his task but was ultimately run ragged by Leroy Sane all afternoon.
DF Yohan Benalouane, 5 -- Took far too many risks on the ball and gave away a very sloppy penalty.
DF Christian Fuchs, 7 -- Did really well as a stand-in centre-back. Clearly not entirely comfortable in that position but stayed focused and committed throughout.
DF Ben Chilwell, 6 -- Got better as the game went on, and he got used to Sterling's bag of tricks.
MF Marc Albrighton, 7 -- Was in the wars from the outset and went off with a black eye but got the assist for Okazaki's goal with an inviting delivery.
MF Wilfred Ndidi, 6 -- Dealt with Yaya Toure pretty well. Just let down by a couple of loose passes.
MF Andy King, 5 -- Danny Drinkwater was missed. King just never got into the pace of the game and was eventually forced off injured.
MF Riyad Mahrez, 6 -- Showed one moment of brilliance to win the penalty but then slipped at the vital moment, and though he found the back of the net, he took two touches to do so.
FW Shinji Okazaki, 7 -- Took his goal superbly and, as ever, ran his socks off.
FW Jamie Vardy, 7 -- Stranded at times but never stopped running. His attitude was first rate, though he got very few sniffs at goal.
Substitutes
MF Daniel Amartey, 6 -- Came on for the injured King but never really got motoring.
MF Demarai Gray, NR -- Introduced too late to have any real impact. Has struggled for minutes under Shakespeare.
FW Islam Slimani, NR -- Tried his best to throw his body around but looked a little sluggish at times.
