Steve Nicol explains why Liverpool are not going after players of Luis Suarez's calibre in the transfer market.

Jurgen Klopp wants Steven Gerrard to to succeed him as Liverpool manager once the German boss' time is up at Anfield.

Gerrard is set to take charge of the under-18 team in the summer-- his first head coaching experience since retiring from football last year.

And the former Borussia Dortmund manager told The Times he hopes the Liverpool legend will succeed him at the club.

"I told him when I leave, or the club sack me, I don't care of course who'll be my successor, but I'd love that he'd be it," said Klopp, whose current deal will keep him at Merseyside until 2022.

Steven Gerrard joined the Liverpool academy in February.

Gerrard, who in February joined the club in a roving coaching role, will take over the U18s for Neil Critchley who will move up to command the U23s.

"It's perfect that we can involve Steven," said Klopp. "What a guy, he's fantastic.

"I'll do everything I can to make sure he gets all the information he needs. Because when you join a club, you have a big responsibility for the future, and the future of this club needs legends like Steven Gerrard in decisive positions."
